New Journal of Physics: 2017 Reviewer Awards

Reviewer of the Year: Dr Michał Karpiński, Uniwersytet Warszawski, Poland

The award was a genuine surprise to me, since I am making only a very small contribution to NJP. While reviewing I try to help the authors in improving their papers. I encourage drawing proper conclusions from experimental data, including proper uncertainty analysis, which is often neglected. I also make sure there are enough technical details provided to make the work replicable.

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion: 2017 Reviewer Awards

Reviewer of the Year: Dr Olivier Izacard, Princeton University, United States

Dr Olivier Izacard works at Princeton University, USA, on plasma physics for magnetized controlled fusion. His work involves the development of kinetic and fluid theoretical models and edge numerical simulations. He has been selected in 2016 as one of the Outstanding Reviewers for Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, and in August 2017 he received a Directorate Award from the Physical and Life Science department of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for his research on kinetic effects in fluid theory. As a reviewer of a few journals, Dr Izacard tries to perform his reviews as if he were a co-author of the manuscript, since peer-reviews are one of the best ways to improve the scientific quality of papers. He hopes that this kind of investment will become standard for reviewers.
