Scope

Environmental Research: Water is an interdisciplinary journal addressing the critical challenges posed by water scarcity, global change, and environmental degradation.

The journal covers all aspects of the hydrosphere, and looks to explore the connection between physical, chemical, biological, and ecological processes that govern water sustainability, as well as the evolving relationship between humanity and water. By exploring the whole water cycle, Environmental Research: Water is looking to foster collaboration and bring communities together. The goal is to encourage interdisciplinary studies that address global change, nexus, resilience, mitigation, adaptation, security, and solutions to provide sufficient water of suitable quality.

Topics include, but not limited to:

  • Changes in the hydrological cycle and water resources distributions in time and space
  • Hydrological extremes and water-related hazards
  • Impact of global change on water availability, quality, and access
  • Water scarcity and its societal consequences
  • Water governance and policy frameworks for sustainable water management
  • Water-food-energy-ecosystem nexus
  • Water quality and its environmental and human health impacts
  • Water-related ecosystems and biodiversity
  • Water technologies and wastewater treatment
  • Planetary boundaries for water
