Professor Shiyi Chen studied mechanics and received his first degree in 1981 from Zhejiang University. He then had his postgraduate study at Peking University, receiving an MSc degree and a Ph.D. degree in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2013, a Fellow of American Physical Society (1995), and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (2004). He was also Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Peking University. From 2015 to 2020, he took office as the President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
