Professor Shiyi Chen earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanics from Zhejiang University in 1981 and his MSc and PhD from Peking University in 1984 and 1987, respectively. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1995, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics in 2004, and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013. He previously served as Vice President and Dean of the College of Engineering at Peking University and as President of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) from 2015 to 2020.
